Are medical exams mandatory for the Belgium WHV?

To obtain the Belgium Working Holiday Visa, it is strictly mandatory to present a medical certificate that guarantees the good health of the applicant and rules out diseases that may represent a risk to public health. This document is essential for visa approval and must be presented during the consular appointment.

Medical certificate requirements by nationality

The general and strict rule for processing the D Visa is that no particular medical exams (such as X-rays or blood tests) are attached to the consular file. It only requires the official medical certificate provided by the Belgian authorities, which has a maximum validity of 6 months from the date of its signature.

The requirements regarding which health professionals are authorized to complete it vary depending on the country of origin:

  • Taiwan: It only requires the official certificate issued by an accredited hospital. If the document is signed in a center not recognized by the embassy, it will require its respective consular legalization.

  • South Korea: It only requires the official certificate strictly issued by the three hospitals designated by the diplomatic representation.

  • Canada: It only requires the official certificate signed by a doctor recognized by the embassy (consular doctor) or by a locally registered doctor.

  • Australia and New Zealand: It only requires the official certificate signed exclusively by a consular doctor endorsed by the Belgian authorities.

Final Considerations

Consular authorities require that the health certificate be presented mandatorily in the official format downloadable from government portals. Submitting unofficial documents or forms will result in the automatic rejection of the visa application. For technical assistance regarding downloading forms and locating authorized doctors or consular centers, you can consult the Volare Belgium WHV section.
