🇦🇺 Australia and 🇨🇿 Czech Republic pause their Working Holiday agreement

Volare Editorial | April 1, 2026

The Australian Department of Home Affairs and the Consulate General of the Czech Republic have confirmed that the Work and Holiday pilot program (subclass 462) between both nations has entered a temporary pause phase. According to the official statement issued by the immigration authorities, the suspension of the receipt of new applications is effective as of March 1, 2026, for both Australian and Czech applicants.

This measure primarily aims to allow the department to carry out the necessary arrangements and management for the program's extension. This exchange, which allows for cultural and professional mobility between young people from both countries, is currently under this technical review to ensure the continuity and improvement of the agreement in the future.

Authorities have clarified that citizens who already hold an approved visa before the suspension date will not be affected and will be able to enter their respective destinations according to the conditions of their permit. However, no new spots will be granted nor will applications that entered the system after the administrative closure be processed. Interested parties are recommended to monitor official channels for future announcements regarding the resumption of applications after the extension arrangements are completed.

Regardless of the trip's reason, it is mandatory to present a return flight ticket reservation or, failing that, to prove the possession of additional economic funds that guarantee the purchase of said ticket to return to your country of origin once the permitted stay has concluded.
