The Belgium Working Holiday program establishes defined periods of stay that are strictly regulated by the original bilateral agreements. It is essential to understand the immigration regulations regarding the duration of the visa to avoid irregularities during your stay in the Schengen Area.

Stay and validity regulations
The program conditions are clear regarding the time limits allowed for participants:
Maximum duration: The visa grants a temporary residence and work permit with a non-extendable validity of exactly 12 months from the date of entry into Belgian territory.
Prohibition of extension: Under no circumstances is it possible to extend, renew, or prolong the stay under the Working Holiday Visa category once this one-year period has ended.
Subsequent immigration alternatives
If the young traveler wishes to remain in the country once their WHV expires, they must undergo the regular immigration processes:
Change of status: The applicant must apply for a completely different visa category (such as the Single Work Permit or a student visa), complying with the legal and fee requirements of those categories from scratch.
Mandatory return: As a general rule, immigration authorities require the change of status to be carried out from the country of origin, so the WHV holder must leave Belgium at the end of their 12 months before applying for a new residence.
Mandatory Supplementary Requirements
We remind you that, precisely because the visa is not renewable and has a strict expiration date, the initial approval of the application is subject to the presentation of the following documents:
Ticket Documentation: It is a mandatory requirement to present a return ticket already purchased at the end of the 12-month period. If it has not been acquired, the applicant must reliably demonstrate possession of additional and sufficient financial funds to purchase a return ticket at the end of the stay.
Financial Solvency: Demonstration of funds for initial support through official bank statements.
Final Considerations
Remaining in Belgian territory or the Schengen Area with an expired Working Holiday Visa constitutes a serious immigration offense, which can result in deportation and a ban on future entry to Europe.
