The success of an application for the Stagiaires (Young Professionals) program in the Swiss Confederation depends on the rigor and accuracy of the submitted file. Since this permit has a strictly professionalizing nature, the Swiss bureaucratic machinery requires documents that prove both the candidate's technical training and the solidity of the job offer obtained.

1. General and Administrative Documentation

Regardless of nationality, all applicants must submit the following base documents to the corresponding Swiss representation:

  • Official SEM form: Two original copies of the visa application must be submitted, duly completed and signed.

  • Valid passport: The travel document must have a minimum validity of 3 to 6 months after the expected end date of the stay in Switzerland.

  • Employment contract: Original document including a detailed and integrated Training Plan, signed by both the Swiss employer and the trainee (2 copies required).

  • Curriculum Vitae (CV): An updated version reflecting the applicant's academic and professional trajectory.

  • Police Certificate: Unlike other European models, Switzerland requires the original physical police record, which must be duly apostilled and have a certified translation.

  • Travel health insurance: Policy with a minimum coverage of 30,000 euros including hospitalization and medical repatriation.

2. Specific Academic Requirements

Swiss regulations adjust educational requirements according to the bilateral agreements in force with each nation, ensuring that the internship is carried out in the candidate's specific area of expertise.

Argentina, Australia, Chile, Japan, Monaco, and New Zealand

For these citizens, it is imperative to present the University degree or a Technical/vocational training certificate completed. This study must have had a minimum duration of two years to be validated by the cantonal authorities.

Canada and the United States

In these cases, the program allows for greater flexibility. Applicants can present their university or technical training degree, but the participation of active university students is also allowed. In the latter scenario, it is mandatory to attach a valid Certificate of Enrollment proving that the internship is a direct requirement of their current academic study plan.

3. Stay Planning and Return

The Swiss administration supervises that the professional exchange cycle of the young professional is fully planned, ensuring that the participant has the means to return to their country of origin after concluding their work training.

Mention of the Ticket: It is a mandatory requirement to include proof of reservation for the return ticket to the country of origin within the visa file. In the event of not having the physical ticket at the time of the consular appointment, the applicant must documentarily prove that they possess sufficient liquid financial resources, additional to their trainee salary, to purchase the return flight once their professional training permit expires.

4. The Value of an Impeccable File

Submitting complete and organized documentation facilitates the work of the State Secretariat for Migration (SEM) and speeds up the response times of the receiving canton. By focusing the file on a validated employment contract and solid academic backing, the young professional demonstrates their commitment to the excellence standards of the Swiss labor market, ensuring a smooth transition to one of the most prestigious training experiences in the world.
