Cost and Requirements Guide: Working Holiday Visa for Hungary

Financial planning is a fundamental pillar for those wishing to apply for the Working Holiday Visa in Hungary. To provide clarity, Volare has consolidated information on consular fees and operational expenses, as well as additional requirements for financial support and initial logistics.

Application costs vary according to the bilateral agreements in force between Hungary and the countries of origin:

  • Group 1: Argentina, Chile, Hong Kong, Colombia, Australia, Ecuador, and New Zealand The established consular fee is 110€. To this amount, extra expenses related to mandatory medical insurance and document management must be added.

  • Group 2: Taiwan The fee amounts to 110€, plus expenses corresponding to insurance and administrative procedures.

  • Group 3: South Korea These citizens have a preferential fee of 90€, plus medical insurance and paperwork costs.

  • Group 4: Japan Under the current agreement, Japanese citizens are exempt from paying the consular fee (0€), only needing to cover personal operational expenses.

Maintenance Funds and Accommodation

Beyond the fee, the Hungarian government requires the applicant to demonstrate sufficient resources to cover their initial stay. Although there is no strict fixed amount, it is recommended to show between 2,500€ and 3,000€ through bank statements from the last three months.

Regarding accommodation, it is mandatory to present a confirmed reservation (hotel, hostel, or Airbnb) or an invitation letter for the first months of the stay, detailing the address and the period of stay.

Travel Requirements and Academic Offer

It is important to remember that all participants must include in their budget the flight ticket reservation (round trip) or, failing that, demonstrate the additional funds necessary for its future purchase. This is a critical point during the consular interview.

Likewise, the program allows for complementing the work experience with the academic offer available in the country. Participants can enroll in Hungarian language courses or short-term studies, provided these activities do not exceed 6 months in total duration. Work also has a limit of 6 months with the same employer, always prioritizing the holiday nature of the trip. For detailed information on the complete process, you can visit the official Working Holiday Visa Hungary section.
