The platform specialized in exchange programs and visas, Volare, presents a new technical installment focused on the integrity and documentary security requirements for the Iceland Working Holiday Visa. This resource aims to detail the standards required by the Directorate of Immigration regarding criminal record certificates, a fundamental pillar to guarantee transparency in the admission process to the Nordic country.
Iceland maintains a strict conduct verification protocol for all foreign applicants, requiring documents issued by the highest national authorities that certify a clean judicial history.

Specific Requirements by Nationality
Icelandic regulations establish differentiated criteria according to the security and justice system of each issuing country. The following are the requirements for the participating nationalities in alphabetical order:
Andorra: It is mandatory to present a physical criminal record certificate issued by the highest authority of the country of residence. The document must be no more than 12 months old at the time of submission.
Canada: A specific physical certificate is required. Canadian citizens must present the certified RCMP report based on fingerprint verification. The maximum validity of the document is 12 months.
Chile: Applicants must submit a physical criminal record certificate issued by the Civil Registry and Identification Service. As in the other cases, the validity cannot exceed 12 months.
Japan: It is mandatory to present the physical criminal record certificate issued by the corresponding national police authority, with a maximum age of 12 months from its date of issuance.
United Kingdom: For this nationality, the police certificate issued by ACRO is exclusively required. The document must be physical and no more than 12 months old.
General Regulations and Grounds for Refusal
The Directorate of Immigration of Iceland requires the delivery of official physical documents and does not admit, under any circumstances, the use of affidavits of good conduct or certificates issued by minor local authorities. The document must be issued by the highest national authority and, if the original is not in English or a Nordic language, it must be accompanied by a certified official translation.
It is important to note that the residence permit will be denied if the certificate shows that the applicant has served a prison sentence in the last five years for a crime that, under Icelandic law, would involve a sentence of more than three months in prison. This evaluation of legal equivalence is strictly carried out by immigration officers in Kópavogur.
Transport Planning and Logistical Support
In compliance with migration security regulations, international transport planning is an unavoidable requirement of the file. The interested party must attach a duly confirmed exit ticket from Iceland to their application. In the event of not possessing the ticket at the time of application, it is mandatory to clearly demonstrate through bank statements that the applicant possesses additional and sufficient funds exclusively destined for the purchase of said ticket at the end of the cultural exchange period.
With this new tool, Volare reaffirms its commitment to providing technical clarity on international regulations, promoting safe and organized mobility for young travelers.
