Documentation Guide for the Sweden Working Holiday Visa

Updated: Apr 19

Volare Editorial | April 17, 2026

The formation of a flawless file is the most critical step to ensure a favorable resolution by the Swedish authorities. Strict compliance with documentary requirements allows the evaluation process to be fluid and reduces the possibility of additional requests that could delay the obtaining of the permit.

Administrative Status and Program Pause

It is fundamental for applicants to consider that the agreement to access this permit is currently in a state of indefinite pause. Within Volare's destination categorization, Sweden remains under the color yellow, representing a temporary suspension of admissions without a confirmed reactivation date from the Swedish migration authorities. It is recommended to check quota availability before starting the collection of documents.

Mandatory Documentation Check-list

To formalize the application before Migrationsverket, the interested party must gather and present the following documentation:

  1. Valid Ordinary Passport: Legible and complete copies of the identity page must be attached, as well as all pages containing validity stamps and residence permits or visas from other countries.

  2. Application Form: Management is preferably carried out electronically through the official e-service. In exceptional cases, the printed and duly signed Form 155011 (Working Holiday) is admitted.

  3. Certified Translations: It is a mandatory requirement that all original documents are in Swedish or English. Any document issued in another language must include an official translation carried out by a certified translator.

  4. Proof of Financial Solvency: Bank statement issued in the name of the account holder, no older than 6 months, demonstrating possession of at least 15,000 SEK.

  5. International Health Insurance: A comprehensive policy valid throughout Swedish territory providing coverage for emergency care, hospitalization, and medical repatriation. Australian citizens are exempt from this requirement.

  6. Administrative Fee Receipt: Proof of payment of the official fee of 1,500 SEK required by Migrationsverket for processing the file.

Return Ticket Requirement and Return Guarantee

An element that remains valid and mandatory at any stage of the application is the accreditation of transport means. The applicant must include in their planning the possession of an already issued return ticket to their country of origin. If they do not have the physical ticket at the time of management, they must clearly demonstrate that they have sufficient additional liquid funds to purchase said return ticket once their annual stay in Swedish territory is over.

Formalization and Submission

Once all documents have been gathered, the upload is carried out through the electronic services portal of the Migration Agency. The clarity of the images and the correct nomenclature of the files facilitate the work of the case officers. After the initial review, the applicant will be summoned to an in-person appointment for the capture of biometric data.
