To obtain the working holiday visa for Belgium, the Immigration Office universally requires applicants to prove they possess sufficient financial means to cover their basic needs during the initial stage of their stay. This requirement is fundamental for the approval of the D visa.

1. Amounts required by official regulations

Belgian regulations establish a minimum financial standard for citizens of Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Taiwan, and South Korea:

  • Universal base amount: A minimum of 2,500 euros available at the time of application must be proven.

  • South Korea particularity: The Belgian embassy in Seoul explicitly requires bank statements to prove possession of at least 4,300,000 KRW to cover the requirement equivalent to 2,500 euros.

2. Accreditation methods by nationality

The way to demonstrate solvency varies depending on the country of origin and the language of issuance of the banking documents:

Australia and New Zealand

  • Documentation: Present original bank statements in the applicant's name with a minimum balance equivalent to 2,500 euros. Since they are issued in English, the documents are accepted by the consulate without the need for an official translation.

Canada

  • Documentation: Present the last 3 bank statements or an official bank certificate proving possession of at least 2,500 euros. Documents issued in English or French are valid without the need for additional translation.

Taiwan

  • Documentation: Present a bank certificate in the applicant's name indicating a current balance of at least 2,500 euros. Documents originally issued in Mandarin require an official translation.

South Korea

  • Documentation: Present a bank statement or the summary of a credit card (which must be valid for the entire stay) demonstrating a minimum balance of 4,300,000 KRW.
