Funds Guide for the Brazil Working Holiday Visa

Updated: Mar 29

Volare Editorial | March 26, 2026

The Working Holiday program for Brazil requires applicants to reliably demonstrate that they possess the necessary financial means to support their initial stay. According to the guidelines of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil (Itamaraty), the regulations place a particular emphasis on the ownership of funds, allowing external sponsorship only in exceptional cases defined by current bilateral agreements.

Below, we detail the recommended amounts and document submission conditions for participating nationalities, based on the protocols of the Consular Portal.

Fund Requirements by Country

The amounts suggested by the Brazilian authorities aim to ensure that the participant can cover their accommodation, food, and transportation expenses during the first few months, before obtaining their first job.

  • Australia: Sufficient funds equivalent to AUD 5,000 are recommended. This is the only agreement that exceptionally contemplates the acceptance of sponsorship from parents.

  • Germany, South Korea, France, and New Zealand: The generally recommended amount is USD 2,500. For these nations, a strict restriction applies: the funds must be the applicant's own and in the visa holder's name.

How to Demonstrate Financial Solvency

For the proof of funds to be validated by the Brazilian consular authorities, the applicant must present the documentation following specific technical criteria:

  1. Bank Statements: It is mandatory to present the original bank statement for the last 3 months. The document must clearly show the holder's name, the final balance, and recent transactions.

  2. Account Ownership: As a general rule, the account must belong exclusively to the visa applicant.

  3. Sponsorship Policies: * France, Germany, South Korea, and New Zealand: Letters of financial support, sponsorship declarations from family or friends, or third-party accounts are not accepted under any circumstances.

    • Australia: Parental sponsorship is accepted, provided that the corresponding sworn statement is presented along with the sponsor's bank statements.

Travel Logistics and Return Ticket

Compliance with the funds requirement is intrinsically linked to the participant's ability to return. At the time of application, authorities require proof of possession of a confirmed return ticket to the country of origin or habitual residence.

If the physical ticket is not available at the time of the interview, the applicant must reliably demonstrate that they possess sufficient additional funds to purchase said ticket at the end of their 12-month stay. This amount is independent of the USD 2,500 (or AUD 5,000) intended for daily maintenance.
