Health Insurance Guide for the Poland Working Holiday Visa

Updated: May 12

Volare Editorial Staff | May 11, 2026

Volare presents a technical report on the mandatory health coverage requirements for applicants of the Poland Working Holiday Visa. To obtain the National Visa Type D, regulations from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland require the purchase of an international travel medical insurance policy that guarantees assistance during the entire duration of the permitted stay.

Coverage Requirements by Nationality

Polish legislation establishes health protection criteria that must be proven through official certificates at the time of submitting the file in e-konsulat:

  • Argentina, Australia, Chile, South Korea, Japan, New Zealand, and Taiwan: It is mandatory to have insurance with a validity of 12 months. The non-negotiable minimum coverage must be 30,000 EUR and must explicitly cover medical emergencies, urgent hospitalization, and medical repatriation or repatriation in case of death. Unlike other European systems, Poland does not require the participant to switch to a local insurance provider after arrival, allowing the international policy to be maintained throughout the cycle.

  • Canada: Canadian citizens are governed by the stricter rules of the Youth Mobility treaty. The insurance must have a minimum coverage of 50,000 CAD for the 12 months of stay. It is a mandatory requirement that the policy contains no deductibles or co-payments, covering expenses from the first cent. Additionally, an official letter issued by the insurance company certifying these specific conditions is required, as the consulate rejects simple copies of insurance cards.

Technical Clarifications on Polish Jurisdiction

It is essential to correct planning errors derived from the regulations of other countries. While in destinations such as the Netherlands a transition to local health insurance is required after four months of residence, in the Republic of Poland this requirement does not exist for holders of this visa. The international medical insurance must remain active from day one of entry into the Schengen area until the final departure from the territory.

Volare reaffirms its commitment to providing technical clarity on international mobility regulations, facilitating safe planning adjusted to Polish standards.
