How long do the Belgium WHV quotas usually last?

To obtain the Belgium Working Holiday Visa, it is essential to consider the availability of places allocated annually. The duration of these quotas and the allocation method vary significantly depending on the bilateral agreements established with each participating country.

Quota availability and allocation by nationality

The general rule for processing the D Visa is that the administration of quotas depends strictly on current international treaties. The requirements and limits on the availability of places vary depending on the country of origin:

  • Taiwan and South Korea: Strict annual quotas (200 places per country). They are granted strictly on a first-come, first-served basis, so it is recommended to apply early in January to secure a spot.

  • Canada: Limited quotas (725 places). They are distributed through periodic draws. It is advisable to register the profile early to be able to enter the annual selection rounds.

  • Australia and New Zealand: There is no annual numerical limit for these nationalities. Places are unlimited and guaranteed throughout the year.

Mandatory Supplementary Requirements

Regardless of the availability of quotas at the time of applying, the approval of the application is subject to the presentation of the following documents:

  • Ticket Documentation: It is a mandatory requirement to present a return ticket already purchased at the end of the 12-month period. If it has not been acquired, the applicant must reliably demonstrate possession of additional and sufficient financial funds to purchase a return ticket at the end of the stay.

  • Financial Solvency: Demonstration of funds for initial support through official and updated bank statements.

Final Considerations

Consular authorities recommend planning the application in advance, especially for nationalities subject to strict quotas or draws. Once the annual places run out, it is not possible to issue new visas until the opening of the next calendar year.
