For those young people looking to take advantage of their stay to train, the consular authorities establish clear regulations regarding the academic offer allowed with the Hungary Working Holiday Visa.

When planning the trip, it is fundamental to remember that the main purpose of this bilateral agreement is to vacation, with work and study being secondary or incidental activities. Training options and language requirements vary depending on the applicant's passport. Below, we detail the official regulations divided into two key aspects: time limits for studying and language certification requirements.
1. Can I study during my stay in Hungary?
The general answer is affirmative, but there are strict temporary restrictions that must be respected to avoid incurring immigration violations:
Rest of the nationalities (General Rule): Regulations and treaties explicitly stipulate a maximum limit of 6 months to enroll in improvement, training, or language courses. Exceeding this period within the visa's validity is not permitted under this immigration status.
Ecuador (Restrictive Exception): The treaty signed with Ecuador is more restrictive than the rest of the agreements. It explicitly prohibits Ecuadorian citizens from enrolling in educational or training courses for a period exceeding 4 months. Informing applicants of this nationality that they have 6 months exposes them to a direct violation of their immigration status, which can result in the cancellation of their visa.
2. Is it mandatory to submit an official language exam to apply?
The requirement of an English or Hungarian certification at the time of preparing the consular file is another frequent doubt, whose answer depends entirely on the country of origin:
Rest of the nationalities (General Rule): It is not mandatory for any of the nationalities to submit an official language exam (neither Hungarian nor English). The level of proficiency in foreign languages is not an exclusionary documentary factor for visa approval.
Ecuador: As a unique exception to the general rule, Ecuadorian citizens do have the mandatory requirement to submit an official language certification to apply to the program, and must attach this supporting document to their consular file at the time of requesting the appointment.
