Following the entry into force of the mobility agreement between Reykjavik and Santiago, Iceland has established itself as one of the most exclusive destinations for young Chileans seeking a work and cultural experience in Northern Europe.

The Iceland-Chile Working Holiday program allows young people from both countries to legally reside and work for a maximum period of 12 months. Unlike other European destinations, this agreement has a limited annual quota of 50 vacancies, which requires rigorous technical preparation to secure the visa.
Fundamental application requirements
To qualify for the program in 2026, applicants must meet the following mandatory criteria:
Nationality and Residence:Â Be a Chilean citizen and habitually reside in Chile at the time of application.
Age Range:Â Be between 18 and 30 years of age, both inclusive.
Passport:Â Have a valid travel document that exceeds the intended date of departure from Iceland by at least three months.
Dependents:Â Traveling accompanied by dependent family members is not permitted under this type of visa.
Financial Solvency:Â Demonstrate sufficient funds for initial support in the country, in addition to possessing a return ticket or the resources to purchase one.
Technical documentation and academic offer
One of the critical points of the process is the presentation of health insurance with full international coverage, including hospitalization and repatriation. It is essential to verify that the policy meets the minimum standards required by the Directorate of Immigration of Iceland (Ăštlendingastofnun).
Regarding the academic offer, the visa allows for short-term studies or language courses during the stay, provided that the main objective of the trip remains holiday mobility and incidental employment. Applicants must declare their intention not to extend their stay beyond the authorized period of one year.
Application process
Currently, the process is managed remotely by sending physical documentation to the immigration authorities in Iceland, following the payment of the corresponding administrative fee. It is recommended to start the process at least three months prior to the desired travel date to account for shipping and consular processing times.
