Volare presents a technical report on the duration of stay and residency regulations for holders of the Poland Working Holiday Visa. It is essential to understand that this permit, issued as a National Visa Type D, is strictly temporary in nature and is subject to the immigration laws of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland.

Stay Structure and Legal Limits
For citizens of Argentina, Australia, Chile, South Korea, Japan, New Zealand, and Taiwan, the visa has a maximum and strict limit of 365 days. This youth mobility permit is, as a general rule, non-extendable and non-repeatable. Once the year of stay has concluded, the document loses its legal validity and does not allow for extensions to continue tourism activities or casual work.
There is a technical exception for citizens of Canada: the Youth Mobility Program allows, in certain cases, a second application under a different category of the same program, which distinguishes their status from other participating nationalities.
Force Majeure Exceptions
Polish legislation provides for the extension of a Type D visa only in unique and exceptional circumstances of extraordinary and unforeseeable force majeure. These cases are primarily limited to:
Humanitarian Reasons: Emergency situations that justify the stay.
Critical Health: For example, if the holder is hospitalized and their medical condition physically prevents them from leaving Polish territory before their permit expires.
Change of Status and the MOS Platform
Outside of medical emergency cases, if a participant wishes to settle in Poland long-term, the legal pathway consists of a change of immigration status to obtain a Temporary Residence Permit (Karta Pobytu) based on regular full-time employment or higher studies.
As of January 1, 2026, all management related to these residence permits must be carried out mandatorily and exclusively through the government's electronic platform MOS (Moduł Obsługi Spraw). This portal centralizes applications and is the only valid channel to initiate the transition toward long-term residency.
Volare reaffirms its commitment to providing technical clarity on international mobility regulations, facilitating safe planning adjusted to Polish standards.
