The Australian government has implemented important updates to its work and holiday visa programs, opening new opportunities for young people of various nationalities. Starting July 1, 2026, key modifications came into effect benefiting applicants from Europe, Asia, and South America.

One of the main developments is the extension of the age limit for the Working Holiday Visa (subclass 417). Citizens holding passports from Cyprus, Finland, Germany, and the Republic of Korea are now eligible to apply for this visa if they are between 18 and 35 years of age (inclusive). Under the new regulations, eligible applicants can submit their application up to 11:59 pm (AEST) on the day before their 36th birthday, providing a much wider margin to plan this international experience.
On the other hand, excellent news arrives for South America regarding the Work and Holiday Visa (subclass 462). The Australian government has officialized an increase in the annual cap for Uruguay. From July 1, 2026, up to 1,500 first-year visas are available for eligible Uruguayan passport holders in each program year. This increase permanently finalizes a previously agreed amendment between Australia and Uruguay, strengthening the exchange ties between both nations.
These changes reflect Australia's ongoing commitment to fostering global cultural and work exchange, adapting its regulations to facilitate the arrival of young talent. At Volare, we will continue monitoring these agreements to provide you with the most up-to-date information for your next trip.
