When planning your exchange trip to Europe, it is vitally important to know the health requirements to ensure your application is accepted without observations. Below, we detail the health regulations and the mandatory medical certification requirements to present your file before the official France Working Holiday Visa (VVT) portal.

1. Mandatory status: Who must present it?

The French government requires a medical certificate from the majority of its youth mobility partners to guarantee public health. In the following board, we summarize the actual classification according to the latest consular guidelines:

Country Group

Requirement Status

Details of the Rule

Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Hong Kong, Japan, Mexico, Peru, South Korea, Taiwan, and Uruguay

⚠️ Mandatory

The medical certificate is an exclusive requirement. Without the presentation of this original document, the visa will not be processed or approved.

Australia, Canada, and New Zealand

❌ Not required

Bilateral agreements with these nations are more flexible, and their citizens are expressly exempt from presenting this document for the application.

2. Clinical requirements of the document

If your nationality is on the list of mandatory countries, the original paper document must be issued by a registered doctor. To avoid rejections, make sure the professional explicitly details the following points in the certificate:

Criterion to certify

Specifications and special cases

Physical and mental health

Must indicate good general condition. Peru Case: It is critical that the certificate explicitly mentions both aspects (physical and mental) and that there are no chronic or disabling diseases.

Infectious diseases

Declaration of the absence of diseases that could pose a risk to the community.

General aptitude

Confirmation of the aptitude to carry out work and recreational activities during the year of stay.

Vaccination schedule

Colombia Case: Strict mention must be made that the vaccination schedule is up to date according to current national regulations.

💡 Volare Tip: Some consulates (such as those of Argentina or Colombia) have an official downloadable template that facilitates the process. In the case of Peru, ensure the certificate is issued by a registered medical doctor (CMP) and that the stamp is legible, as validating the medical registration is a key administrative step.

3. Validity and format

The medical certificate is a "short duration" document. Do not process it months in advance, as you must respect strict rules: the date of issue must not be older than 30 days relative to the day of your in-person appointment at the visa center or consulate.

Regarding the language, for Latin America, it is generally accepted in Spanish or English. For countries like Japan or South Korea, it is usually required in French or English, depending exclusively on the consular office where the procedure is carried out.

4. Reminder: Medical Certificate vs. Medical Insurance

It is essential not to confuse both concepts when putting together your file, as they fulfill completely different immigration functions:

Document

Main function

Who does it apply to?

Medical Certificate

Preventive clinical document proving that the applicant is healthy at the time of applying for the visa.

Only to mandatory nationalities (see point 1).

Medical Insurance

International coverage policy (minimum 30,000 euros) that guarantees financial assistance in case of illness or repatriation during the trip.

Mandatory for ALL nationalities (including Australia, Canada, and New Zealand), without exception.

Transversal flight considerations

To complete a solid file, it is a mandatory transversal requirement to evidence the possession of a return flight ticket to leave the territory, or else, to present financial documentation that reliably demonstrates the possession of exclusive additional funds for its future purchase at the end of your visa.
