🇳🇿 🇰🇷 Opening of 3000 slots for the New Zealand South Korea Working Holiday

Volare Editorial | May 16, 2026

Immigration New Zealand has confirmed that on May 14, 2026, the official application portal for the Working Holiday scheme destined for young South Korean citizens successfully opened. For this period, the volume of 3,000 annual slots has been maintained, managed under the traditional first-come, first-served system.

This agreement represents one of the pillars of youth mobility in the Asia-Pacific region, allowing beneficiaries to reside in New Zealand territory for up to 12 months with open work permits. Given the historically high demand for this migration corridor, authorities recommend that interested parties have all digital documents prepared to avoid technical delays during the system upload process.

Requirements and entry conditions

To be eligible, South Korean applicants must prove they are between 18 and 30 years old at the time of application. Likewise, the system requires proof of minimum maintenance funds and holding a comprehensive international medical insurance policy.

Unlike other New Zealand visa schemes that operate through selection draws or pools, this program rewards administrative speed. Once the limit of 3,000 grants is reached, the portal will close automatically until the next fiscal cycle, making prior preparation the most decisive factor for applicant success.

Labor market dynamics

Young people accessing this visa can integrate into various sectors of the New Zealand economy, with special emphasis on the service, seasonal agriculture, and hospitality industries. Participants are reminded that while the work permit is flexible, the primary objective of the program remains cultural exchange and tourism, maintaining the restriction of not working for the same employer for the entirety of the stay.
