Quota availability and application process for the WHV for Belgium

Access to the working holiday visa for Belgium program is regulated by bilateral agreements that define both the volume of annual vacancies and the application methodology. It is essential to distinguish between nationalities with unlimited quotas and those that require early management starting from the opening of the annual cycle.

1. Availability of places by nationality

The volume of quotas determines the temporal flexibility to initiate the process before the Belgian authorities:

  • Australia and New Zealand: They have unlimited quotas. This allows applicants to submit their application at any time of the year without the risk of running out of places.

  • Canada: It has a total of 725 annual vacancies. Application reception begins in January and remains open until the assigned quota for the cycle is completed.

  • Taiwan and South Korea: Each of these nations has 200 annual places. As these are limited quotas, the application process opens in January, and it is recommended to start the management during the first half of the year.

2. Procedure modalities and resolution times

The administrative procedure varies according to the consular infrastructure available in each region, although the response times from the Immigration Office are usually uniform:

Australia and New Zealand

  • Procedure: The process is in-person and managed through the VFS Global visa application centers.

  • Approval: The estimated resolution time ranges between 4 and 12 weeks after the collection of biometric data.

Canada

  • Procedure: The application can be made by mail or in person without a prior appointment at authorized service points.

  • Approval: The technical evaluation period is between 4 and 12 weeks.

Taiwan and South Korea

  • Procedure: The application is strictly in-person and requires scheduling a prior appointment at the corresponding Belgian embassy or consulate.

  • Approval: The official response is issued within a period of 4 to 12 weeks after the consular interview.
