Obtaining international health coverage is a non-negotiable requirement for the Working Holiday Visa for Argentina. Unlike other immigration procedures, Argentine authorities demand that the insurance meets very specific coverage standards and a strict timeframe to ensure the participant is protected throughout their entire stay. This must be presented along with proof of funds or a confirmed return flight ticket during the process.

Coverage and Currency Requirements by Country
The minimum amount for medical assistance varies based on the bilateral agreement and the reference currency of the applicant's country. It is essential that the insurance certificate clearly states these figures:
Euro Currency Countries: For citizens of Germany, Austria, Denmark, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, France, Hungary, Norway, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, and Sweden, insurance is mandatory with a minimum coverage of €30,000. The policy must explicitly guarantee hospitalization and sanitary or funerary repatriation for the full 12 months of the visa.
Dollar Currency Countries: For citizens of Australia, Japan, South Korea, and New Zealand, insurance is mandatory with a minimum coverage of USD 30,000. Just as in the previous case, it must cover hospitalization and sanitary/funerary repatriation for the entire 365-day period.
Uninterrupted Validity: The 12-Month Rule
One of the most frequent reasons for immediate visa rejection by the Argentine consular authorities is the fragmentation of the policy. Current regulations establish that the policy for Argentina must have uninterrupted validity for 365 days (or the full 12 months) starting from the date of entry into the country. Presenting insurance for shorter periods (e.g., 3 or 6 months) with a promise to renew it later is not permitted. Submitting proof with a validity shorter than the stay permitted by the visa results in the automatic denial of the application.
Critical Clauses: Repatriation and Assistance
Not all international travel insurance policies are valid for this program. The insurance contract must mandatorily specify two critical clauses that go beyond standard medical or surgical assistance:
Sanitary Repatriation: Covers the transfer of the participant in a medical plane or specialized transport in the event of an accident or serious illness that prevents return by conventional means.
Funerary Repatriation: Covers the transfer of remains in the event of death.
It is vital that these two concepts appear verbatim in the certificate presented to the consulate, along with coverage for medical and surgical assistance.
Regarding Local Medical Coverage
It is important to clarify that for this visa, there is no requirement to contract local Argentine medical insurance. The social security and healthcare assistance for the participant are entirely sustained by the international coverage contracted before the start of the trip. The Argentine system validates the sufficiency of this external coverage, so it is not necessary to carry out health insurance affiliation procedures within the national territory for the visa process.
