🇨🇱 Medical exam for the Chile Working Holiday Visa
Volare Editorial | September 9, 2026
Complying with health requirements is a mandatory step for foreigners wishing to apply for temporary residence under youth mobility agreements in Chile. The National Migration Service (SERMIG) seeks to ensure that the applicant does not pose a public health risk and is in optimal condition for their stay in the country, but the way to prove it varies according to the applicant's passport.

Summary Board Medical Requirement by Nationality
Not all bilateral agreements require the same level of clinical evidence. Below, we break down the mandatory nature of the health certificate according to your home country:
Nationality (Passport) | Medical Certificate Rule | Consular Detail |
🇫🇷 🇩🇪 🇯🇵 🇦🇹 France, Germany, Japan, Austria | Mandatory (Strict Requirement) | The agreement explicitly requires presenting a formal medical certificate proving a good general state of health. |
🇲🇽 🇵🇪 🇨🇴 Mexico, Peru, Colombia | Mandatory (Pacific Alliance) | They must strictly comply with the presentation of the certificate to rule out infectious or contagious diseases. |
🇦🇺 🇳🇿 🇨🇦 Australia, New Zealand, Canada | Simplified Requirement | Although the SERMIG platform has the health checkbox, these agreements are usually more flexible, sometimes requiring only a sworn declaration. Volare Recommendation: Attach a simple medical certificate anyway to avoid delays. |
Technical requirements for the health certificate
For those applicants who belong to the strict requirement block, uploading just any document will not be enough. For the file to be accepted without observations on the digital platform, the Medical Certificate must meet the following criteria:
👨⚕️ Professional Issuance: The document must be issued, signed, and stamped by a registered physician. The data and professional registration number of the doctor must be perfectly legible.
⏳ Strict Validity (30 Days): The certificate must have a maximum age of 30 days at the time of submitting the online application. Documents with older issuance dates will be automatically rejected.
🩺 Health Declaration: The text of the certificate must explicitly prove that the applicant is in good physical and mental health to travel, and expressly detail that they are not a carrier of infectious or contagious diseases.
Validation and language of the document
Following the general SERMIG documentation rules, the language of the document is a critical factor. If the medical certificate is issued in a language other than Spanish or English, it must mandatorily be accompanied by its official translation.
Likewise, depending on the country of origin from where the document is issued, it is highly recommended that the certificate has the corresponding legalization or apostille, thus ensuring the international validity of the professional's signature before the Chilean authorities.
It is the sole responsibility of the applicant to verify that the scan is of high quality (in PDF format) to avoid delays in the analysis by migration officers.
