Working Holiday Visa Costs for Chile

Updated: Apr 2

Volare Editorial | April 1, 2026

The application process to obtain a temporary residency under the Working Holiday agreements in Chile involves the payment of an administrative fee to the National Migration Service (SERMIG). These amounts are set based on reciprocity criteria and vary significantly according to the applicant's nationality, reflecting the nature of each bilateral agreement.

Official fees by nationality

The cost structure is mainly divided by geographical areas and specific cooperation agreements:

  • European Union and Schengen Area: Values are situated in a diverse range. Germany presents the lowest cost at 75 EUR, followed by France at 99 EUR. Destinations such as Ireland (145 EUR), Luxembourg (180 EUR), and Austria (195 EUR) require a higher investment. Portugal (85,590 CLP), Czech Republic (90,000 CLP), and Hungary (121,330 CLP) handle costs in Chilean pesos to facilitate the process.

  • Oceania and Nordic Countries: Applicants from Australia must pay 670 AUD, while for New Zealand, the fee is set at 150 USD. In Northern Europe, Denmark leads with 3,060 DKK, Sweden with 1,500 SEK, and Iceland with 16,000 ISK.

  • Special Agreements and Pacific Alliance: Citizens from Colombia, Mexico, and Peru access a reduced preferential fee. South Korea stands out by offering the application free of charge, while for Japan, the cost is 19,000 CLP. In the cases of Canada and Poland, the fee is variable and strictly adjusted to diplomatic reciprocity.

Complementary investment and operating expenses

It is essential to consider that the SERMIG fee is only part of the initial investment. The applicant must budget for a series of mandatory external expenses for their file to be admitted:

  1. Health Protection: It is imperative to contract international medical insurance that provides full coverage during the 12-month stay. The cost of this service varies depending on the applicant's age and the scope of benefits.

  2. Document Validation: Managing apostilles for criminal record certificates and academic degrees is an essential requirement. Likewise, any document issued in a language other than Spanish requires a certified translation to guarantee the accuracy of the information before Chilean authorities.

  3. Logistics and Courier: Depending on the consular office, shipping costs for physical documentation and the return of the visaed passport may apply.

  4. Transport and Maintenance: Beyond the procedures, the cost of the round-trip flight ticket must be considered. Authorities require the presentation of a return ticket reservation or, failing that, proof of additional economic funds that ensure the young person's ability to return to their country of origin at the end of the program.
